9 Best Freshdesk Alternatives (2026)
Freshdesk now puts Freddy AI on every plan, but the session packs and per-agent Copilot add up. We compared 9 alternatives on seat price, AI billing and honest tradeoffs, with prices verified Nov 4, 2026.
The short answer: Freshdesk is still a solid, affordable ticketing tool, and as of November 2026 every paid plan includes Freddy AI Agent. Switch if your AI volume is past the one-time 500 free sessions (after that it is $49 per 100), if you are paying $29 per agent for Copilot on top of Pro, or if you want a tool where AI is billed only when a ticket is actually resolved. Stay if you depend on Freshdesk's SLA policies, skill-based routing or the wider Freshworks suite and the bill is fine.
We compared 9 alternatives on what each costs per seat, how the AI is billed, and where each one is honestly better or worse than Freshdesk. No affiliate links. Every price below was checked on the vendor's own pricing page on Nov 4, 2026. For a straight head-to-head with the full Freshdesk bill walked line by line, see Freshdesk vs SupportWire. The quick version:

- Help Scout: best for email-first teams
- Intercom: best AI agent for funded teams with budget
- Front: best for shared inboxes across teams
- Gorgias: best for Shopify and ecommerce
- HubSpot Service Hub: best if you already run HubSpot CRM
- Crisp: best for small teams that want chat on a flat workspace price
- Tidio: best for very small shops starting with chat

Why teams look for a Freshdesk alternative#
Freshdesk's seat prices are fair. The friction is almost always on the AI side and in how the plan tiers gate features.

The 500 free sessions are a one-time allowance
Freddy AI Agent is now listed on Growth, Pro and Enterprise, each with "first 500 sessions included". That is a lifetime allowance per account, not a monthly one. A team handling 50 AI conversations a day burns through it in about ten days. After that, sessions cost $49 per 100.
Two AI meters, not one
Sessions cover the customer-facing AI agent. The agent-side assistant, Freddy AI Copilot, is a separate add-on at $29 per agent per month, and it is only available on Pro and Enterprise. A 10-agent team on Pro that wants both is paying $55 + $29 per agent before the first session pack.
Sessions are not resolutions
Freshdesk meters sessions: conversations the AI agent handles. Tools like SupportWire, Help Scout and Intercom bill when the AI resolves the conversation. Per unit, Freshdesk's $49 per 100 sessions works out to $0.49 a session, the same sticker as SupportWire's $0.49 per resolution. The difference is what you pay for when the AI does not close the ticket. Check how Freshworks defines a session for your channels before you compare.
Features gated by tier
Multiple SLA policies, intelligent routing and custom dashboards start on Pro. Skill-based routing, sandbox and audit logs are Enterprise. Teams that need one of those features jump from $19 to $55 or $89 per agent for every seat, not just the ones who use it.
The full line-by-line Freshdesk bill, with an interactive cost stacker, lives on Freshdesk vs SupportWire. We will not repeat it here.
How AI pricing differs across these tools#
This is the decision that moves your bill the most, so it is worth naming the models plainly.
- Per resolution or outcome (SupportWire $0.49, Help Scout $0.75, Intercom Fin $0.99, Zendesk $2.00 pay-as-you-go): you pay when the AI closes the conversation without a human. Cost tracks value. The catch is that each vendor defines "resolved" a little differently.
- Per session or interaction (Freshdesk $0.49 per session in packs of 100, Gorgias $0.90 per automated interaction): you pay when the AI handles a conversation. Cheaper per unit can still cost more if many sessions end in a handoff.
- Per conversation (Front Autopilot from $0.05): very low unit price, so read what the tier includes.
- Credit buckets (Crisp, HubSpot): a dollar or credit allowance per plan. Simple at low volume, harder to forecast once you exceed it, especially where overage pricing is not published.
- Per seat AI (Freshdesk Copilot $29, Zendesk Copilot $50, Intercom Copilot $29, Front Copilot $20): charged for every agent who has it, whether they use it or not.
A quick way to compare: take last month's conversation count, estimate how many the AI would fully resolve, and price both numbers against each model. For a deeper walkthrough, read what AI customer support actually costs.
The 9 best Freshdesk alternatives#
1. SupportWire
SupportWire is an AI-native help desk: a unified inbox for chat, email and forms, with Kal, our AI agent, answering from your knowledge sources. Full disclosure: we built it. We built it because AI billing in most help desks punishes you for using the AI.

Source: SupportWire pricing page, captured Nov 4, 2026.
What stands out:
- One plan, $19 per seat. No Growth / Pro / Enterprise ladder.
- AI billed only on resolutions. The first 50 each month are free, then $0.49 per resolution. No conversation caps and no session packs.
- Copilot and drafting are free. Agents can ask Kal mid-thread and get a draft from your knowledge, with no per-agent AI fee.
- Confidence threshold and smart handoff. You choose when Kal auto-sends and when it hands off, with the full thread and sources passed to the agent.
Compared with Freshdesk: the same $19 seat as Freshdesk Growth, but there is no separate Copilot line and AI is billed on resolutions every month rather than from a one-time session allowance.
Where Freshdesk still wins: Freshdesk has a longer track record, Enterprise controls like sandbox and audit logs, skill-based routing, and the rest of the Freshworks suite if you also want their CRM or IT service desk. If you rely on those, weigh that honestly.
Pricing: $19 per seat per month, 50 AI resolutions free each month, then $0.49 per resolution. See pricing and the Freshdesk vs SupportWire head-to-head.
2. Zendesk
Zendesk is the heavyweight of ticketing. If your support org has tiers, regions, compliance needs and dedicated admins, Zendesk is the safest bet.
What stands out:
- Ticketing depth: views, triggers, macros and automations that scale to large teams.
- Marketplace: the largest app ecosystem in the category.
- AI resolutions included: Suite Team includes 5 automated resolutions per agent per month and Professional includes 10.
Compared with Freshdesk: similar ticketing model with more depth and more admin overhead. You get more control, and you pay for it.
Where it falls short: price. Suite Team is $55 per agent per month annually ($69 monthly) and Professional is $115 ($149 monthly). Automated resolutions beyond the included amount are $2.00 each pay-as-you-go, and Copilot is another $50 per agent per month on Professional and up.
Pricing: Suite Team $55, Suite Professional $115, Enterprise by quote. Zendesk vs SupportWire has the full comparison, and our Zendesk alternatives for small business post covers the wider field.
3. Help Scout
Help Scout is a calm, email-first shared inbox with a good knowledge base and a chat widget called Beacon.
What stands out:
- Free plan for 5 users with one inbox and one Docs site.
- Simple AI billing: $0.75 per AI resolution, charged once per conversation only when AI answers without human help.
- Clean interface that new agents learn in a day.
Compared with Freshdesk: less ticketing machinery, more focus on conversations that feel like email. Teams that never used half of Freshdesk's automations often feel at home quickly.
Where it falls short: fewer enterprise controls and less routing depth than Freshdesk Pro or Enterprise, and AI costs more per resolution than SupportWire's $0.49.
Pricing: Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75 per user per month as listed, plus $0.75 per AI resolution. More detail in Help Scout pricing and Help Scout vs SupportWire.
4. Intercom
Intercom pairs a polished messenger with Fin, its AI agent.
What stands out:
- Fin AI Agent on every plan, billed per outcome.
- Proactive messaging and in-app support that Freshdesk does not match.
- Workflows for complex routing and automation on Advanced and up.
Compared with Freshdesk: a stronger AI agent and a better in-app experience, at a much higher total cost once Fin volume grows.
Where it falls short: two meters again. Seats plus $0.99 per Fin outcome, plus $29 per agent per month for Copilot beyond the free allowance (10 Copilot conversations per agent per month). The Pro add-on for AI quality tools starts at $100 per month.
Pricing: Essential $29 per seat billed annually (the page currently shows $19 for new customers), Advanced $85, Expert $132, plus $0.99 per Fin outcome. Model your own bill with the Intercom pricing calculator, or see Intercom vs SupportWire.
5. Front
Front is a shared inbox built for teams that work customer email together: support, ops, account management.
What stands out:
- Email-native collaboration: comments, assignments and shared drafts on real email threads.
- Low-cost AI automation: Autopilot starts at $0.05 per conversation.
- Copilot included on Enterprise.
Compared with Freshdesk: better when support is one of several teams sharing the same inbox. Weaker as a classic ticketing tool with a customer portal and knowledge base.
Where it falls short: Starter is capped at 10 seats and Professional at 50, so growing teams climb tiers. Copilot is a $20 per seat add-on below Enterprise.
Pricing: Starter $25, Professional $65, Enterprise $105 per seat per month billed annually.
6. Gorgias
Gorgias is a help desk built around ecommerce, with order data and store actions inside every ticket.
What stands out:
- Ecommerce-first: store and order context sits next to the ticket.
- Priced by ticket volume, not seats.
- AI Agent focused on ecommerce questions like order status and returns.
Compared with Freshdesk: far better for online stores, much less relevant for B2B SaaS.
Where it falls short: costs scale with ticket volume. Basic is $50 per month for 300 tickets, Pro is $300 for 2,000, with overage at $0.40 or $0.36 per ticket. AI Agent interactions are $0.90 each on annual plans and $1.50 beyond the plan's included allowance.
Pricing: Starter $10 (monthly only, 50 tickets), Basic $50, Pro $300, Advanced $750 per month billed annually. See Gorgias vs SupportWire.
7. HubSpot Service Hub
HubSpot Service Hub makes sense when your sales and marketing already live in HubSpot.
What stands out:
- One customer record across sales, marketing and support.
- Free tools for up to 2 users.
- Customer Agent AI on HubSpot Credits.
Compared with Freshdesk: better if CRM context matters more than help desk depth. Worse if you do not already use HubSpot.
Where it falls short: Professional carries a $1,500 one-time onboarding fee (Enterprise $3,500), and AI usage runs on credits at $0.01 each, but the pricing page does not say how many credits a conversation uses.
Pricing: Starter $20 per seat monthly (discounted for new customers on annual billing), Professional $90 per seat billed annually ($100 monthly), Enterprise $150.
8. Crisp
Crisp is a chat-first support tool priced per workspace instead of per seat.
What stands out:
- Flat workspace pricing: Mini $45 for 4 seats, Essentials $95 for 10, Plus $295 for 20+.
- Free plan with 2 seats.
- AI credits bundled into each paid plan.
Compared with Freshdesk: cheaper for small teams that mostly do chat. Less mature ticketing.
Where it falls short: AI runs on dollar credits ($5, $25 and $75 per plan, roughly 90, 450 and 1,350 automated conversations by Crisp's own estimate), and the pricing page does not publish what happens past them. Extra agents are $10 per month each.
Pricing: Free, Mini $45, Essentials $95, Plus $295 per workspace per month. See best Crisp alternatives and Crisp vs SupportWire.
9. Tidio
Tidio is a lightweight chat widget with Lyro, its AI agent, aimed at small online businesses.
What stands out:
- Fast setup for a website chat widget.
- Free plan with 50 conversations.
- Lyro AI available as a standalone product.
Compared with Freshdesk: simpler and cheaper for a tiny team that starts with chat. Not a replacement for structured, SLA-based ticketing.
Where it falls short: plans are priced by billable conversations, so cost grows with volume, and Lyro is a separate line from $32.50 per month for 50 conversations.
Pricing: Free, Starter $24.17 per month (100 conversations), Growth from $49.17, Plus from $300 per month plus usage.
Who should switch, and who should stay#
Switch if:
- You have used up the one-time 500 Freddy sessions and are now buying packs every month.
- You pay $29 per agent for Copilot and most agents use it a few times a week.
- You moved to Pro for one feature (SLA policies, routing) and are paying the jump on every seat.
- You want AI cost to follow resolutions, not handled conversations.
Stay if:
- You rely on Enterprise controls like sandbox, audit logs or skill-based routing.
- You run Freshservice or Freshsales and value one vendor.
- Your AI volume is low and your bill is predictable today.
Migration checklist: leaving Freshdesk#
- Export your data. Tickets, contacts, companies and knowledge base articles. Keep a raw copy before you change anything.
- List what you actually use. Groups, SLA policies, automations, canned responses, custom ticket fields. Only rebuild what is in active use.
- Move the knowledge base first. Your AI agent answers from it, so import and clean it before you turn AI on.
- Rebuild routing and SLAs in the new tool, then test with a few internal tickets.
- Re-point channels. Update support email forwarding, replace the chat widget snippet, and update help center links in your app and docs.
- Run in parallel for a week. Keep Freshdesk read-only for history while new conversations land in the new tool.
- Cancel at term end. Freshdesk cancellations take effect at the end of the current term, so time the switch to your renewal date.
If you are moving from Intercom instead, our guide to switching from Intercom follows the same shape.
So which one should you pick?#
- AI bill is the problem: SupportWire. $19 per seat, AI billed per resolution, Copilot free.
- You need the deepest ticketing: Zendesk, if the budget is there.
- Your team lives in email: Help Scout, or Front if several teams share the inbox.
- You want the strongest AI agent and can pay for it: Intercom with Fin.
- You sell on Shopify: Gorgias.
- You already run HubSpot: Service Hub.
- You are a tiny team starting with chat: Crisp or Tidio.
Whatever you pick, price it with your own numbers: seats, monthly conversations, and how many the AI would actually resolve. For the full Freshdesk side of that math, see Freshdesk vs SupportWire, or check SupportWire pricing.
Frequently asked questions
It depends on why you are leaving. If the AI bill is the problem, SupportWire is $19 per seat with 50 AI resolutions free each month, then $0.49 per resolution, and drafting and Copilot are free. If you need heavier enterprise operations, Zendesk is the most complete. If your team lives in email, Help Scout or Front. If you sell on Shopify, Gorgias. If you already run HubSpot, Service Hub.
As of Nov 4, 2026, Freshdesk lists Growth at $19, Pro at $55 and Enterprise at $89 per agent per month, billed annually (monthly billing costs more; the page advertises 20% off for annual). Freddy AI Agent is on all three plans with the first 500 sessions included once per account, then $49 per 100 sessions. Freddy AI Copilot is a $29 per agent per month add-on on Pro and Enterprise. The full breakdown is on our Freshdesk vs SupportWire page.
Partly. Every paid plan includes Freddy AI Agent with 500 sessions, but those 500 are a one-time allowance per account, not a monthly one. After that you buy packs at $49 per 100 sessions. Freddy AI Copilot, the agent-side assistant, is not included on any plan: it is a $29 per agent per month add-on, and only on Pro and Enterprise.
On seat price alone, a few tools match or undercut Freshdesk Growth at $19: SupportWire is also $19 per seat, and Help Scout, Front Starter and HubSpot Service Hub all have free or low entry tiers. The bigger difference is AI. Freshdesk charges per session after the one-time 500, plus Copilot per agent. Compare tools on seats plus your real monthly AI volume, not the sticker.
For most small and mid-size teams it is a few days of work, not months. Export tickets, contacts and knowledge base articles, recreate your groups, SLAs and automations in the new tool, re-point your support email forwarding and swap the chat widget snippet. Run both tools side by side for a week before you cancel. The checklist in this post covers each step.
Zendesk is deeper and more expensive: Suite Team is $55 per agent per month billed annually and Suite Professional is $115, with AI resolutions at $2.00 each pay-as-you-go beyond the included allowance (verified Nov 4, 2026). Freshdesk covers most of the same ticketing ground for less. If neither price model fits, look at per-resolution tools instead.
